Singngat, Manipur, August 23, 2025 — St. Joseph High School, Singngat, in collaboration with Sacred Heart Convent, held a two-day awareness programme on drug abuse and sexual abuse on August 21 and 22 at the school's auditorium. The initiative, aimed at educating students of Classes 6 to 10 of the school about the dangers, consequences, and preventive measures related to drug and sexual abuse, featured Sr. Reema Shakwa, SH, Social Work Programme Coordinator of the Sacred Heart Congregation’s Amala Province in Assam, as the resource person.
The programme featured a series of insightful sessions that touched on crucial aspects of human development and well-being. Participants were guided through topics such as developmental stages, physical changes across life stages, the importance of understanding good touch and bad touch, and the psychological impact of sexual abuse. Practical coping strategies to help survivors overcome guilt and shame were also highlighted. In addition, Sr. Reema delivered an informative session on drug abuse, shedding light on the different types of drugs, their far-reaching effects on individuals, families, and society, and the underlying factors that lead to drug addiction.
The sessions were supported by short video clips and group activities that encouraged discussion and practical understanding of the topics. This interactive approach ensured that participants gained meaningful insights into personal safety, the consequences of drug use, and the methods of supporting victims of sexual abuse.
The programme left a lasting impact on the students, equipping them with essential knowledge and strategies to make informed decisions and contribute to creating safer communities.
