MP Regional Youth Commission Calls for Renewed Zeal in Youth Ministry at ‘Ignite the Fire’ Gathering

DABRA, Gwalior, July 13, 2026: The Madhya Pradesh Regional Youth Commission concluded its three-day Youth Directors and Animators Get Together 2026 with a renewed commitment to strengthening youth ministry across the region, bringing together diocesan youth leaders for formation, collaboration and spiritual renewal.

Held from July 8 to 10 at the IJ Multipurpose Centre in Dabra and hosted by the Gwalior Diocesan Youth Commission, the gathering was organised around the theme "Ignite the Fire" (Jeremiah 20:9), calling participants to rekindle their passion for accompanying young people in the life and mission of the Church.

Bishop Joseph Thaikkattil of Gwalior inaugurated the programme, while Fr. Dr. James Athikalam, MST, Chairman Bishop of the MP Regional Youth Commission, delivered the inaugural address and remained with the participants for two days, encouraging them to respond creatively to the evolving needs of youth ministry.

The programme brought together Diocesan Youth Directors, Assistant Diocesan Youth Directors and Lady Animators from dioceses across the Madhya Pradesh region. It was also attended by Fr. John Barman, National Executive Secretary of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), and Fr. Vishal Mal, Associate Executive Secretary of the CCBI Youth Commission.

As the chief resource person, Fr. Barman conducted leadership formation sessions focusing on building authentic relationships with young people and strengthening youth ministry at the diocesan level. Participants also took part in an interactive team-building programme led by Percival Holt, former National President of ICYM, aimed at fostering collaboration and effective leadership.

Addressing the changing realities of pastoral outreach, Fr. Joshy Eriyatpadayatti Paulose, Regional Youth Director of the MP Regional Youth Commission, presented a session on "Changing Youth Ministry," highlighting emerging challenges, new opportunities and the need for innovative approaches in engaging young people.

The gathering combined spiritual formation with practical leadership training through daily celebrations of the Eucharist, prayer services, group discussions, orientation sessions, cultural fellowship and team-building activities. Participants also joined a heritage tour of Gwalior and shared pastoral experiences from their respective dioceses, enriching mutual learning and collaboration.

The meeting concluded with a thanksgiving celebration, participant feedback and a collective pledge to carry forward the spirit of "Ignite the Fire" in their dioceses. Organisers said the gathering strengthened regional cooperation and renewed the commitment of youth leaders to accompany young people with enthusiasm, creativity and Gospel-centred leadership.
