Daltonganj, 22 March 2025– The Missionaries of Charity, founded by Saint Mother Teresa, inaugurated a new house in Gothgaon Parish on 19 March, coinciding with the Solemnity of St. Joseph. The event marked a significant milestone for the Diocese of Daltonganj, drawing a large gathering of priests, sisters, and faithful.
Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas SFX of Daltonganj led the inauguration and blessing ceremony, followed by a solemn Holy Mass. In his homily, he praised the Missionaries of Charity for their selfless service, comparing their dedication to St. Joseph’s care for baby Jesus despite hardship. “It is a great joy for us that you have opened your second house in our diocese,” he said, praying for God’s blessings on the new community.
After Mass, the faithful carried the Blessed Sacrament in a solemn procession and placed it in the chapel’s tabernacle. The celebration continued with a felicitation programme were minor seminarians sang hymns.
The Regional Superior of the Missionaries of Charity expressed gratitude to the Diocese for its support and requested prayers for the new community.
Fr. Maurice Toppo, Dean of South Deanery; Fr. Sanjay Gidh, Vicar General of Daltonganj Diocese; Fr. Ajay Minj SJ, Treasurer of Daltonganj Diocese; and numerous priests, sisters, and faithful attended the event.
The new house reflects the Missionaries of Charity’s ongoing commitment to serving the poor in Daltonganj, strengthening their mission of compassion and care.
