Pune, April 28, 2026: A new initiative aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and economic collaboration within the Christian community was launched in Pune with the inauguration of the Minority and Indian Christian Members of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) on April 24.

The launch ceremony, held at Maria Assunta Convent Hall on Dhole Patil Road, brought together Church leaders, business professionals and entrepreneurs committed to strengthening the community's presence in the commercial sector.

Addressing the gathering, Bishop Simon Almeida emphasised the need for the Christian community, long recognised for its contributions to education and healthcare, to embrace entrepreneurship more actively. He encouraged greater participation in business and industry as a pathway to economic empowerment and community advancement.

Joining the event online were Pastor Peter George, Gul Kripalani, President of the Indo-Israel Chamber of Commerce, and Dr Vishal Moreshwar, Managing Director of NICHE, along with other distinguished guests and industry leaders.

Lucas Kedari, the founding president of MICCI, outlined the organisation's vision of uniting Christian entrepreneurs and professionals under one platform. He said MICCI would mentor aspiring business leaders, facilitate networking opportunities, and serve as the official chamber of commerce for the Christian community. He also announced ambitious plans to expand the organisation across Maharashtra, extending its reach to major cities, districts and talukas.

Speakers highlighted the Christian community's significant contribution to nation-building and stressed the importance of collective economic progress through innovation, enterprise and mutual support.

The programme was ably compered by Shirish Sebastian.

MICCI's launch marks a significant step towards empowering Christian entrepreneurs and creating a vibrant business network that seeks to foster growth, collaboration and sustainable development within the community.
