Pilar, Goa, Nov 20, 2025 – The 98th Death Anniversary of Venerable Agnelo de Souza was marked with great solemnity and devotion at the Pilar hillock, where Bishop Dominic Savio Fernandes, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Bombay, presided over the Eucharistic celebration.
Speaking to Catholic Connect after the Mass, Bishop Fernandes expressed heartfelt joy at joining the commemoration. He emphasized the remarkable devotion the faithful hold for Venerable Agnelo, noting that the saintly priest is “already a saint in the hearts of the people.”
The bishop recalled witnessing the overwhelming number of pilgrims who arrived over the recent days, calling it a moving sign of the many blessings and favors people attribute to Venerable Agnelo’s intercession. “The tremendous devotion of the pilgrims touched me deeply,” he said.
Being from Anjuna, the birthplace of Venerable Agnelo, Bishop Fernandes noted the personal significance of being present for the celebration. “It gives me tremendous joy to be here,” he shared, adding that Venerable Agnelo’s humble life, simplicity, and ready availability to people continue to inspire countless faithful.
Concluding with a hopeful message, Bishop Fernandes said, “May he soon be declared Blessed,” praying that God may continue to shower abundant blessings upon all devotees who gathered to honour the revered priest.
