New Delhi, March 12, 2026: Catholics across India are invited to observe a Day of Fasting and Prayer for Peace in the Middle East on Friday, March 13, following an appeal by the President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI), Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão.
The day forms part of the Week of Prayer for Peace from March 8 to March 14, announced by the CCBI amid escalating tensions and violence in parts of the Middle East.
The faithful are encouraged to offer their fasting, prayer and personal sacrifices for peace in the region, for the protection of innocent lives and for wisdom among world leaders working toward reconciliation and dialogue.
Cardinal Ferrão also highlighted the many Indians living and working in the Middle East who support families back home and contribute significantly to both the Church and the nation. The faithful have been urged to pray in a special way for their safety and well-being.
During this week, Catholics have also been encouraged to pray the Holy Rosary each day, invoking the intercession of Our Lady, Queen of Peace, for reconciliation and a just resolution to the tensions.
Catholics are invited to participate wholeheartedly in the March 13 day of fasting and prayer, and parish communities and families are encouraged to remind and invite others to join in this spiritual effort for peace.
