‘Live the Gospel Authentically,’ Urges Bhopal Archbishop at St. Francis of Assisi Feast

Bhopal, 6 October 2025: The Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi was celebrated with deep devotion and joy at the St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral Church, Bhopal, drawing large numbers of faithful who came to honour the patron saint through prayer, song, and reflection. The solemn Holy Eucharist was presided over by Archbishop A.A.S. Duraiaraj SVD of Bhopal, who guided the congregation in a celebration marked by simplicity, devotion, and communal joy.

In his homily, Archbishop Duraiaraj highlighted Saint Francis’s life and enduring message, focusing on his total surrender to God, his compassion for the poor, and his reverence for nature. He urged the faithful to emulate Saint Francis’s humility and simplicity in their daily lives and stressed the saint’s relevance in today’s world, particularly in fostering ecological balance, peace, and fraternity. Drawing from the Canticle of the Sun, the Archbishop reminded everyone that the earth and all living beings are God’s creation, calling humanity to be responsible stewards rather than exploiters.

At the conclusion of the Mass, Archbishop Duraiaraj imparted a special blessing, invoking Saint Francis’s intercession for peace, health, and harmony within families and communities. The faithful joined in the closing hymn with enthusiasm, giving thanks for the spiritual enrichment of the celebration. The Cathedral was adorned with natural floral arrangements, reflecting Saint Francis’s profound love for all of God’s creation. Attendees left inspired to live the Gospel more authentically, embracing simplicity, service to the poor, and care for the environment, striving to become true “instruments of peace” in the world.
