BENGALURU, June 10, 2026: The Konkan Catholic Association (KCA), Bengaluru, celebrated its Diamond Jubilee on June 7 with a grand gathering at Chowdiah Memorial Auditorium, commemorating 60 years of dedicated service, community development, and social outreach.
The jubilee celebration brought together clergy, community leaders, former beneficiaries, and members of the association to reflect on the organisation's rich legacy and its enduring contribution to the Catholic community in Bengaluru.
Presiding over the programme, Archbishop Emeritus Bernard Moras of Bengaluru paid tribute to the vision and generosity of the pioneers who laid the foundation of the association in 1966. He highlighted the establishment of Konkan Bhavan, a landmark initiative that has provided accommodation and support to underprivileged Catholic youth arriving in Bengaluru for higher education and employment.
“More than 1,500 students and job seekers have benefited from the hostel accommodation at Konkan Bhavan,” Archbishop Moras said, noting that the facility continues to serve as a venue for cultural, social and religious gatherings.
Justice John Michael Cunha, former Judge of the Karnataka High Court and chief guest at the event, praised the community's contributions over the decades and acknowledged the association's efforts in promoting the welfare and advancement of its members.
Walter Nandalike, Founder and Managing Director of Daijiworld Media Pvt. Ltd., also commended both past and present members of the association for their unwavering commitment to preserving community values while serving society.
A significant highlight of the celebration was the felicitation of Nigel Fernandes, Chief Executive Officer of Asian Trading Corporation (ATC), Director and CEO of Arclight Global Private Limited, and Co-founder of the Catholic Connect App, following his recent investiture as a Knight of the Order of St. Sylvester.
Explaining the significance of the honour, Archbishop Moras described the Papal Knighthood as one of the highest distinctions bestowed by the Catholic Church upon laypersons in recognition of outstanding and selfless service to the Church and society.
The event also featured a moving testimony from Roshan Earnest Pinto, a former resident of Konkan Bhavan, who expressed gratitude on behalf of the many young men whose lives had been shaped by the opportunities and support provided through the hostel facility.
Cultural performances and a live musical concert added a festive atmosphere to the occasion, drawing enthusiastic participation from attendees.
Founded in 1966 by visionary entrepreneur and community leader late A.V. Rego, together with socially committed leaders including late H.A. Patrao and late A.C.L. Peris, the Konkan Catholic Association has worked tirelessly to foster unity among Konkani-speaking Catholics, preserve their language and cultural heritage, and provide educational and medical assistance to those in need.
A lasting symbol of that mission remains Konkan Bhavan, built on land donated by A.V. Rego for the benefit of young people seeking education and employment opportunities in Bengaluru.
As the association celebrated its 60th anniversary, members reflected on a journey marked by faith, service, and solidarity, while reaffirming their commitment to supporting future generations and strengthening the bonds of community.
