Karnataka Youth Pay Tribute to Pope Francis in Online Condolence Meet

Karnataka, 25 April, 2025 : On 24 April 2024, the Karnataka Regional Youth Commission (KRYC) held an online condolence meet to honour the life and legacy of His Holiness, Pope Francis, who recently passed away. The virtual gathering united around 80 young people from across Karnataka in reflection and prayer.


The session opened with a prayer by Lijo from ICYM, setting a solemn tone for heartfelt tributes and memories. Youth leaders, including Vileena Gonsalves (KRYC Coordinator), Nevin Anthony (former Coordinator), Viola Lewis (MIJARC Coordinator), and Supriya Varghese (National ICYM Secretary), reflected on the Pope’s humility, simplicity, and love for the youth and the poor, recounting their encounters with him during World Youth Day.


Jesvita Princy Quadras, former National Convenor of YCS/YSM and ex-member of the International Youth Advisory Board, shared her moving experience of meeting Pope Francis thrice, highlighting his servant leadership and deep affection for young people.


A tribute poem by Anson Nazareth, recited by Venus Lewis (YCS/YSM), and two emotional video songs captured the Pope’s joyful spirit. Special prayers were offered by youth from various movements including AICUF, YOUCAT, YCS/YSM, and ICYM. Alin Jeshma from YU4C led the concluding prayer.


Fr. Joyson Vaz, SJ, and Fr. Pius Dsouza offered reflections on the Pope’s inspiring life of service and connection with people from all walks of life.


Moderated by Anson Nazareth, the meet was both a tribute and a call to embrace Pope Francis’ values of compassion, simplicity, and faith.
