Karnataka Bishops Gather for Annual Lenten Retreat in Chikkamagaluru

Chikkamagaluru, March 13, 2026: In the spirit of the holy season of Lent, the bishops of Karnataka gathered for their Annual Lenten Retreat at Spoorthi Sadana – the Pastoral Centre in Chikkamagaluru from March 9 to 13. The retreat provided the prelates with a period of prayer, reflection, and spiritual renewal as they stepped away from their demanding pastoral responsibilities to focus on deepening their relationship with Christ.

Observed as a sacred time of grace in the Church’s liturgical calendar, the retreat offered the bishops an opportunity to reflect on their pastoral ministry and renew their commitment as shepherds entrusted with guiding the People of God. The days were marked by moments of silence, contemplation, and spiritual introspection, fostering a deeper awareness of their mission in service of the faithful.

The retreat was preached by Fr. Jacob Parapally, MSFS, whose reflections on the Word of God invited the bishops to renew their identity as spiritual leaders. Through his meditations, he encouraged them to lead the faithful with humility, compassion, and a renewed missionary zeal, drawing strength from prayer and the Gospel.

Set amid the serene hills of Chikkamagaluru, the tranquil surroundings of Spoorthi Sadana created an ideal atmosphere for prayer and reflection. The peaceful environment enabled the bishops to participate in daily Eucharistic celebrations, meditative sessions, silent prayer, and moments of fraternal fellowship.

The retreat concluded as a grace-filled occasion that strengthened the bishops’ spiritual fervour and renewed their commitment to shepherd the faithful with dedication and hope during the Lenten season and beyond.
