Indian Priest appointed as Archbishop in Canada

Canada, 17 November 2025: Pope Leo XIV has appointed Indian priest Fr. Susai Jesu, OMI, as the new Metropolitan Archbishop of Keewatin-Le Pas in Canada. He is a member of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate and currently serves as Provincial Councillor and Parish Priest of the Sacred Heart of the First Peoples in the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Edmonton.


Bishop-designate Susai Jesu was born on May 17, 1971, in Pushpavanam, India. He studied philosophy at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram in Bangalore and theology at the Khrist Premalaya Institute of Theology in Ashta. He later earned a Master’s degree in Pastoral Counseling from Saint Paul University, Ottawa. He professed perpetual vows in the Oblate congregation in 2000 and was ordained a priest on July 27, 2000.


Over the years, he has served in diverse pastoral settings: Parish Vicar in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh (2000–2002); Parish Priest in Surala Kappa, North India (2002–2005); Parish Vicar in Kombadimadurai, Tamil Nadu (2005–2007); Parish Priest of St. Gertrude Parish in Pelican Narrows and Our Lady of Seven Sorrows in Sandy Bay (2009–2015). Since 2017, he has been Parish Priest of Sacred Heart of the First Peoples in Edmonton and, since 2019, a Provincial Councillor of the Oblates.
