Taiwan, 8 June, 2025 - Indian athletes delivered a stellar performance at the Taiwan Open, clinching multiple gold medals and setting new records on the final day of the event. Leading the charge was three-time national champion Vithya Ramraj, who, alongside Rohit Yadav, Pooja and Krishan Kumar, secured top podium finishes in their respective events.
Ramraj, a specialist in the 400m hurdles, clocked 56.53 seconds to win gold – her third-best time of the season. This result not only underscored her consistency but also strengthened her chances of qualifying for the upcoming World Championships. The Tamil Nadu athlete has consistently excelled in 400m hurdles, 400m sprints, and the 4x400m relay.
In the men’s javelin throw, Rohit Yadav outshone his competitors with a throw of 74.42 metres. He finished ahead of Taipei’s Huang Shih-Feng (74.04m) and Cheng Chao-Tsun (73.95m), clinching a decisive gold for India.
Pooja delivered another standout performance in the women’s 800m final, clocking 2:02.79 minutes to set a new championship record. Her timing placed her comfortably ahead of fellow Indian Twinkle Chaudhary, who took second place with 2:06.96 minutes.
Krishan Kumar mirrored this success in the men’s 800m final with a dramatic finish. He claimed the gold and rewrote the championship record books with a time of 1:48.46 minutes.
Meanwhile, Yashas Palaksha impressed in the men’s 400m hurdles, achieving a personal best of 42.22 seconds and earning a silver medal. His performance marked a significant comeback after narrowly missing qualification for the 2025 Asian Championships.
The Indian contingent’s strong showing at the Taiwan Open not only brought home medals but also highlighted the nation’s rising stature in international athletics.
