Betul, July 14, 2026: The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) of the Nagpur Archdiocese, in collaboration with the Betul Deanery, organised a youth formation workshop titled “Faith Online” on July 12, inviting young people to reflect on the opportunities and challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI) through the lens of Christian faith.
Held under the leadership of Archbishop Elias Gonsalves of Nagpur and the guidance of Fr Augustine Antony D'Silva, diocesan Youth Director, the workshop sought to help young Catholics develop a balanced and faith-filled approach to the rapidly evolving digital world. Facilitated by the ICYM Nagpur team, the programme combined prayer, reflection, interactive sessions, and fellowship to encourage the responsible use of technology.
Inspired by Pope Leo XIV's encyclical Magnifica Humanitas: On Safeguarding the Human Person in the Time of Artificial Intelligence, the workshop explored the ethical dimensions of AI and emphasised the Church's call to protect human dignity, foster authentic relationships, and ensure that technological progress serves the common good.
The programme began with prayer and action songs, setting a vibrant tone for the day's activities. Through group discussions, presentations, and interactive exercises, participants examined the growing influence of technology on their personal lives, faith, family relationships, and social interactions.
Addressing the gathering, Fr Augustine Antony D'Silva encouraged the youth to cultivate meaningful relationships with their families and communities, reminding them that no technological advancement can replace genuine human encounters or a deep relationship with God. He urged the participants to use digital platforms responsibly while remaining firmly rooted in Gospel values.
In another session, Mr Vivian, President of ICYM Nagpur, highlighted the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence on contemporary society. Describing AI as a powerful tool, he cautioned that it should always remain at the service of humanity. He encouraged the youth to place their trust first in God, especially in moments of uncertainty, rather than depending solely on technological solutions.
The workshop also provided a forum for discussions on youth leadership, collaboration, and forthcoming ICYM initiatives. Participants were encouraged to become responsible digital citizens, active leaders in the Church, and committed witnesses to Christ in both the online and offline worlds.
The programme concluded with the participants renewing their commitment to live their faith authentically in the digital age. They expressed gratitude to Archbishop Elias Gonsalves, Fr Augustine Antony D'Silva, the Betul Deanery, and the ICYM Nagpur team for organising the initiative and reaffirmed their resolve to build a vibrant youth movement dedicated to leading, serving, and witnessing to Christ in every sphere of life.
