ICYM Mangalore Organizes Week-Long Blood Donation Drive

MANGALORE, February 24, 2025: The Central Council of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) of Mangalore Diocese conducted a voluntary blood donation drive, ‘Life for Love,’ from February 7 to February 14 at designated hospitals across Mangalore. Organised under the Red Drop Mangalore initiative, the campaign aimed to promote love and compassion through the act of blood donation. The initiative, which was organised to mark the feast of St. Gonsalo Garcia and Valentine's Day, saw the participation of 53 donors.

Launched in 2016, the Red Drop Mangalore initiative has played a crucial role in saving lives by encouraging voluntary blood donations. Over the past nine years, it has significantly increased blood donation rates, ensuring a steady supply for those in need. The Red Drop Mangalore app, available on the Google Play Store, has further streamlined the process by connecting donors with patients in emergencies.

The ‘Life for Love’ campaign sought to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation, emphasising that a single unit of blood can save multiple lives. With hospitals requiring a continuous supply for accident victims, surgical patients, and critically ill individuals, the initiative aimed to instill a culture of regular blood donation in the community.

Donors registered at their preferred hospitals and ensured they met eligibility criteria before contributing. Each participant received a certificate of appreciation for their generous act. The drive, conducted from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, underscored the spirit of selflessness and unity, inspiring more individuals to participate in future donation efforts.
