ICYM Holds 10th National Council Meeting in Bareilly, Elects New Team

Bareilly, Jan 28, 2026: Marked by reflection, dialogue, and collective planning, the 10th National Council Meeting of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) was held at the Bishop’s House, Bareilly, from 24 to 26 January.

The three-day meeting brought together 48 council members from 12 regions, including Regional Youth Directors, Presidents, Secretaries, and members of the National Team, to discuss the direction of Catholic youth ministry across India.

Over two days, participants deliberated on the Annual Calendar, training programmes, amendments to ICYM guidelines, finances, and other key concerns related to youth ministry. The discussions were aimed at ensuring coordinated planning and effective implementation of ICYM initiatives at both regional and national levels.

Addressing the gathering Bishop Ignatius D’Souza, Chairman of the CCBI Youth Commission, urged young leaders to energise ministry efforts. He emphasised the potential of digital platforms as tools for evangelisation and encouraged members to leverage technology for outreach, engagement, and formation of youth across the country.

Elections were held for the ICYM National Executive Committee for the 2026–2028 term, with Mr. Amit Kumar Dev from Odisha elected as National President and Ms. Alva Vianieca Khyriem from the North East elected as Vice President. Along with them, other office bearers and 15 Executive Committee members were chosen to lead the movement and provide direction for ICYM’s national youth initiatives over the next two years.

The three-day meeting served as a platform for collaboration, strategic planning, and evaluation of ongoing programmes. Council members reflected on past initiatives and formulated plans to strengthen Catholic youth ministry in India, ensuring the movement remains responsive to the needs of young people and local communities.
