Hyderabad Archdiocese Hosts Formation Meet for Altar Servers

Hyderabad, April 29, 2026: Hundreds of altar servers from across the Archdiocese of Hyderabad gathered at St. Mary's High School, Secunderabad, on April 25 for a day dedicated to prayer, formation, and fellowship, aimed at deepening their commitment to liturgical ministry.

The well-organised event provided young participants with an enriching opportunity to reflect on their vocation as altar servers while strengthening their spiritual and practical preparation for service at the altar.

A central feature of the programme was a session on the theme, "Identity of an Altar Server." Participants were reminded that their ministry is fundamentally a service to Christ present in the Eucharist. The session highlighted essential virtues such as reverence, discipline, punctuality, and prayerfulness—qualities indispensable to worthy liturgical service. An interactive question-and-answer segment allowed the altar servers to engage actively and clarify their understanding.

Another important session focused on "Spiritual Growth," encouraging the participants to cultivate Eucharistic devotion, deepen their personal relationship with Jesus, and maintain a consistent life of prayer. The resource persons emphasised that authentic service at the altar flows from a vibrant spiritual life.

The gathering also included practical training, where altar servers received hands-on instruction in vesting, maintaining proper postures, and handling liturgical vessels and other sacred items with care and confidence. This training sought to enhance both their competence and reverence during liturgical celebrations.

Adding colour and enthusiasm to the day, cultural performances showcased the talents of the young participants and fostered a strong sense of unity and camaraderie among altar servers from different parishes.

The Altar Servers' Meet reflected the Archdiocese of Hyderabad's continuing commitment to the faith formation of its youth. By nurturing spiritual depth, liturgical excellence, and a sense of responsibility, the archdiocese is helping form young Catholics who serve the Church with devotion and joy.
