Mainpuri, March 2026: In a remarkable display of integrity, a farmer’s wife from Uttar Pradesh has earned widespread admiration after refusing to touch nearly ₹10 crore that was mistakenly credited to her bank account, choosing honesty over temptation.
The incident took place in Devganj village in the Bichwan area of Mainpuri district, where Rita, wife of Parasbhan Baheliya, discovered an unusually large sum in her account with Bank of India. Living a modest life supported by farming, she had visited a bank during Navratri to withdraw money, only to find it closed due to the holiday.
Later, upon checking her balance at an ATM, she was shocked to see ₹9,99,49,588 credited to her account. Unable to believe it, she verified the amount at another ATM and even recorded a video, which soon spread widely on social media.
Despite the enormous amount, Rita chose not to withdraw a single rupee. She firmly instructed her family members to stay away from the funds until the issue was clarified, demonstrating strong ethical values and responsibility.
The family later approached the bank to report the matter, though the branch was closed at the time. According to bank officials, the incident is likely the result of a technical or transaction error and will be investigated and corrected.
The story has since become a topic of discussion across the region, with many praising Rita’s honesty and self-restraint. In a situation where misuse could have easily gone unnoticed, her decision to act with integrity has stood out as an inspiring example.
The incident serves as a reminder that values such as honesty and accountability continue to hold strong, even in unexpected circumstances, leaving a lasting impression on the community and beyond.
