Bengaluru, January 1, 2025:
In a rare and compassionate gesture, a government school headmaster in Karnataka spent ₹5 lakh from his personal savings to give 24 of his students their first-ever experience of air travel, earning widespread appreciation.
The students, who study at the Government Higher Primary School in Bhadraubandur village of Koppal district, travelled from Jindal Airport in Toranagallu to Bengaluru on a special flight arranged by their headmaster, Beerapppa Andagi. According to media reports, the educator decided to fund the trip himself so that his students could experience flying at least once in their lives.
The initiative formed part of an educational visit aimed at broadening the horizons of children who had never stepped inside an aircraft before. The students, drawn from Classes 5 to 8, undertook the journey with visible excitement and enthusiasm.
Teachers, mid-day meal staff, and members of the School Development and Monitoring Committee also accompanied the group, taking the total number of travellers to around 40, as reported by NDTV.
The headmaster’s selfless act has been widely praised for demonstrating deep commitment to students’ holistic development and for breaking social and economic barriers that often limit opportunities for children from rural and marginalised backgrounds.
By turning a long-held dream into reality for his students, the Karnataka teacher has shown how individual dedication and personal sacrifice can create life-changing experiences and inspire hope beyond the classroom.
