Faith-Based Matchmaking in Avadi, Chennai Sees Successful Commitments to Catholic Marriage

Avadi, October 27, 2025 — Five Catholic couples formally committed to marriage during a Modern Matchmaking event organised yesterday by the Archdiocesan Family Commission of Madras–Mylapore in collaboration with St Anthony’s Shrine, Avadi — an initiative designed to help young men and women discern marriage in a dignified and faith-centred manner under the guidance of the Church.

The in-person matchmaking programme, held on October 26 at St Anthony’s Shrine, brought together 155 men and 72 women, along with parents and elders, and was coordinated by Fr Varghese Rosario. The event began with a prayer service led by Fr Praveen, followed by the ceremonial lamp-lighting by Fr Joseph Jayakumar, Secretary of the Archdiocesan Family Commission, and Fr P. J. Lawrence Raj, Rector of the Shrine. Archbishop George Antonysamy sent his blessings and best wishes to the participants.

Unlike traditional matrimonial listings, this initiative facilitated guided face-to-face introductions, enabling participants to interact responsibly in a respectful and safe environment.

As a direct fruit of the programme, five couples announced their decision to proceed toward marriage, while fifteen others indicated positive discernment and will confirm their decisions in due course.
