DUMKA, October 20, 2026: Thirty-five young Catholics from 10 parishes in Jharkhand’s Dumka diocese are being equipped to use social media as a tool for Gospel evangelisation, creating digital content that connects biblical teachings and Church life with online audiences.
The four-day training programme, held at St Joseph’s School, Dumka, from October 17 to 20, provided practical instruction in photography, video production, poster design and the use of artificial intelligence tools to communicate the Christian message.
Holy Cross Sister Christin Joseph, the principal facilitator, guided participants in understanding different forms of media and using mobile phones effectively for digital engagement. She emphasised the importance of using social media purposefully to communicate meaningful messages.
Fr Binod Murmu, the diocese’s Basic Ecclesial Community coordinator, introduced the participants to artificial intelligence applications, including Canva, Gemini and Suno. Practical sessions covered poster creation, photo editing, video production, photographic techniques and digital storytelling.
Participants also designed posters featuring biblical quotations in Santhali, combining local-language communication with digital creativity. Other sessions focused on report writing and leadership development through group activities.
Bishop Sonaton Kisku of Dumka commended the young people for their efforts to promote Gospel values through digital media.
Organised by the Regional Basic Ecclesial Community Council of Jharkhand, the programme is expected to lead to parish-level digital media teams. Fr Murmu plans further training to help young people prepare posters and videos for Church celebrations and other religious occasions.
Participants pledged to create digital posters based on the daily biblical readings and the saints commemorated in the Church’s liturgical calendar.
