Diocese of Mysore Reviews Jubilee Year Activities

Mysore, November 12, 2025: In a spirit of reflection and renewal, the diocese of Mysore held a review meeting of all diocesan Commission Secretaries at the Catholic Centre, Mysore, under the leadership of Bishop Francis Serrao, SJ, of Mysore. The meeting focused on evaluating the progress of Jubilee Year 2025 activities and setting the course for the coming months.

Fr. Alfred John Mendonca, Vicar General, and Fr. Arul Selva Kumar, Coordinator of Diocesan Commissions, welcomed Bishop Serrao, priests, religious, and lay secretaries, commending their dedicated service in parishes and deaneries throughout the Jubilee Year.

Secretaries of various commissions — including Women, Youth, Laity, Family, Education, Health, Ecology, Prison Ministry, Vocation and Formation, and Ecumenism — presented their reports summarizing key initiatives, parish-level engagement, inter-commission collaborations, and the pastoral impact of their work from June to October 2025. Their presentations reflected a renewed spirit of faith, unity, and service across the Diocese.

In his address, Bishop Francis Serrao, SJ congratulated Mr. Michal of the Prison Ministry for completing 25 years of dedicated service and lauded all commission members for their commitment.

He emphasized the crucial role of Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) in energizing diocesan ministries, urged systematic planning across parish, deanery, and diocesan levels, and encouraged stronger collaboration between commissions — citing examples such as joint Health and Education initiatives for school first-aid programs.

The Bishop also stressed the importance of clear guidelines in Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue, ongoing formation for clergy, and the implementation of a Safeguarding Policy across all diocesan institutions.
