Dibrugarh, Assam, March 24, 2025 – The Dibrugarh Diocesan Youth Commission (DDYC) organised a zonal meeting for youth leaders of Zone 9 of the diocese on March 17, 2025, at St. John Marie Vianney Church, Uriamghat. The gathering brought together youth representatives from four parishes—Sarupathar, Uriamghat, Naojan, and Lachitgaon—to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary for active participation in church activities.
The meeting was led by Fr. John Minj, Diocesan Youth Director, and Fr. Deonis Dungdung, parish priest of the host church. The programme focused on key themes, including the role of youth in the Church, leadership in parish activities, and the structure of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM).
During his session, Fr. John Minj emphasised the Pope’s teachings from Christus Vivit (Christ is Alive), stressing that young people are not just the future but the present of the Church.
In his address, Fr. Deonis Dungdung urged the youth to focus on sports and entrepreneurship to bring about desired changes in their lifestyle. He noted that many local youth belonging to non-Catholic communities are actively pursuing physical fitness and sports to build their careers. He encouraged the young leaders present at the gathering to embrace similar initiatives for a promising future. Additionally, he advised them to explore small-scale entrepreneurship as a means of achieving financial independence within their localities rather than migrating elsewhere. In response, the participants agreed to hold a career guidance workshop on April 27, 2025.
The meeting concluded with a Eucharistic Adoration session led by Fr. John Minj. The session allowed participants to reflect on their learnings and seek spiritual direction.
The zonal meeting marked a significant step in strengthening youth leadership in the Diocese of Dibrugarh, fostering greater engagement in faith and community service.
