Deadly Terror Attack in Kashmir's Pahalgam Claims 26 Lives

Kashmir, 22 April 2025: In one of the most devastating assaults on civilians in recent years, at least 26 people, predominantly tourists, were killed in a terrorist attack in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday. The picturesque meadow, often referred to as "mini-Switzerland," became the scene of tragedy as gunmen opened fire on unarmed visitors.

The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility for the attack. The group cited opposition to the settlement of outsiders in the region as a motive, viewing it as a demographic threat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the "heinous act," assuring that those responsible will be brought to justice and emphasizing India's unwavering resolve to combat terrorism. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, following a directive from the Prime Minister, arrived in Srinagar to assess the situation and chaired a high-level security meeting.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described the attack as "an abomination," highlighting its unprecedented nature in recent years. The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from various political leaders and citizens across the country.

The attack has raised concerns about the safety of tourists in the region, especially with the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. Authorities have intensified security measures to prevent further incidents.

As investigations continue, the nation mourns the loss of innocent lives and stands united against terrorism.
