Church-Led AI Training Equips Young Communicators as Digital Ambassadors in Indore

Indore, June 17: Recognising the growing impact of artificial intelligence and digital media on communication, Satprakashan Sanchar Kendra in Indore has launched a week-long training programme to equip young Catholics with the skills needed to become responsible and effective digital communicators.

The programme, being held from June 14 to 21 at the Satprakashan Centre, has brought together 21 participants from various dioceses across central India. The trainees are being prepared as Digital Ambassadors who can strengthen the Church’s presence in the digital sphere while promoting ethical communication and Christian values.

Now in its fifth edition, the initiative reflects the Church’s increasing engagement with emerging technologies and its commitment to forming a new generation of communicators capable of navigating the rapidly evolving media landscape.

The programme opened with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist led by Bishop Thomas Mathew of Indore, who encouraged participants to become authentic witnesses of Christ in the digital world. Emphasising the influence of social media and online platforms, he urged young communicators to use technology responsibly in promoting truth, hope and human dignity.

Delivering the keynote address, Fr. Babu Joseph Karakombil SVD, coordinator of the training programme, highlighted the transformative role of digital media in contemporary society. He noted that the artificial intelligence tools introduced during the course would help participants become more effective content creators and communicators.

“Your content will represent not only yourselves but also your communities,” Fr. Karakombil said. “As Digital Ambassadors, you carry the responsibility of creating meaningful content that promotes Christian values, cultural heritage and positive social change.”

He encouraged participants to embrace innovation and creativity while remaining firmly rooted in their faith and traditions.

Fr. Cyriac Peter SVD, Director of Satprakashan Sanchar Kendra, stressed the importance of mastering new technologies and communication tools. He said practical digital skills can empower young people to create inspiring and socially responsible content capable of influencing society positively.

“Every piece of content shared online has the potential to shape public opinion and social attitudes,” Fr. Peter remarked. “Therefore, it is essential to create content that fosters peace, positivity and constructive dialogue.”

Combining theory with hands-on learning, the programme features sessions on photography, videography, journalism, graphic design and AI-powered content creation tools.

Fr. Anthony Swamy SVD conducted workshops on camera management, photography and videography, introducing participants to visual storytelling techniques, image composition and the production of high-quality digital content.

Participants also explored the use of Canva and other AI-assisted design platforms, learning how artificial intelligence can enhance creativity and improve professional standards in digital communication.

Journalism sessions led by Mr. Sumit Dhanraj, Vice-President of SIGNIS India and a noted writer, focused on news reporting, feature writing, storytelling techniques and the importance of accuracy, credibility and ethics in the digital age.

Further practical exposure was provided by Mr. Harneet Singh, who introduced participants to a range of AI-powered content creation tools used for research, editing, visual design and digital communication.

Organisers said the training programme aims to equip young communicators with the skills, confidence and ethical foundation necessary to engage effectively in today’s digital environment. By integrating faith-based values with modern communication technologies, the initiative seeks to prepare a new generation of digital leaders capable of proclaiming the Gospel while contributing positively to society.

At a time when technology continues to transform how people communicate and access information, the programme reflects the Church’s commitment to embracing innovation while promoting truth, peace, justice and human dignity in the digital continent.
