Christmas Creative Carnival to Showcase Folk Arts and Crafts in Kottar Diocese

Kottar, Tamil Nadu, November 29, 2025: Kalari Folk Cultural Center and the Art & Heritage Center of the Diocese of Kottar will host a special Christmas Creative Carnival on 7 December 2025 at the Kalari campus in Nagercoil. Scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the one-day training programme invites participants to learn Christmas-themed crafts, greeting card making, and experience traditional folk-art forms such as Kolattam and Kummiyattam.

The event is led by Fr A. Sahaya Belix, Director of both centres, who sees the programme as an opportunity to nurture creativity, preserve traditional folk arts, and inspire participants to reconnect with nature through artistic expression. The initiative aims to revive and strengthen folk art and culture while encouraging eco-friendly and meaningful craft activities.

According to the Art & Heritage Center, the younger generation is increasingly drawn to social media and fast-paced digital trends. To provide a healthy and creative alternative, the centre promotes hands-on craft-making as a therapeutic and enriching experience. Creating a craft or handmade greeting card helps children connect with nature through colours, textures, and natural materials. When these cards are gifted to family and friends, they become heartfelt, personal expressions—offering a depth of emotion that digital messages often lack. This, the centre notes, strengthens real human relationships and emotional bonding.

At the Kalari Folk Cultural Center, the festive season is brought to life through the rhythms of traditional folk dances. The centre emphasises that these art forms were shaped by the daily lives of ancestors, who celebrated festivals with purposeful and expressive movements. These dances embody joy, unity, and inner healing. Practising traditional folk dance, the organisers say, brings natural happiness, physical wellbeing, and a deep cultural connection—benefits that modern recreational activities often fail to provide.

Participation in the training is free, with a materials fee of ₹275. Refreshments will be provided, and attendees are requested to bring their own lunch. With limited seats available, early registration is strongly encouraged for those wishing to take part in this unique festive learning experience.
