Bangalore, Karnataka, May 3, 2026: At the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India National Synodal Assembly on 3 May 2026, Mr. Ajin Joseph presented The Chosen Encounter as a significant digital missionary initiative aimed at renewing evangelisation across India.
In his address, Mr. Ajin highlighted a growing global spiritual hunger, particularly among young people, noting that many are seeking meaning, truth, and a personal encounter with Jesus. He described The Chosen as a “once-in-a-generation movement” that helps bring the Gospel to life in a deeply personal and relatable way, echoing the tradition of imaginative prayer promoted by St Ignatius of Loyola.
He explained that The Chosen Encounter follows a simple yet effective format—Read, Watch, Talk, and Pray—already bearing fruit in parishes, homes, and youth groups by drawing people back to Scripture, prayer, and active participation in Church life.
Looking ahead, Mr. Ajin underscored the importance of the global theatrical release of the Crucifixion segment of The Chosen in early 2027, including screenings in PVR Cinemas. He noted that the film presents not only the historical reality of the Cross but also its deeper meaning—God’s love, mercy, and redemption—offering a powerful opportunity for evangelisation.
Emphasising collaboration, he invited Church leaders to guide and support the initiative, ensuring that those who encounter Christ through digital media are welcomed back into parish life—“from parish to theatre, and from theatre back to parish”.
Responding to the presentation, His Eminence Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao, President of the CCBI, warmly endorsed The Chosen Encounter and encouraged its implementation across all parishes. He urged the assembly members to extend their full support in using this tool for evangelisation and in preparing for the 2027 theatrical release.
The presentation underscored a shared vision: to empower both the faithful and seekers—“the committed, the curious, and the crowd”—to rediscover Christ and renew the Church’s missionary outreach in contemporary India.
