Trichy, 5 July 2025 – With banners flying high and voices raised in song, the Tamil Nadu Catholic Youth Movement (TCYM) held its much-anticipated General Body Meeting in Trichy on Saturday. The gathering brought together dynamic young leaders from across dioceses, united in their mission to be a voice of hope and change.
The day commenced with the ceremonial hoisting of the TCYM flag, setting a tone of unity and purpose. The inauguration featured the TCYM theme song, a Scripture reading, prayer, and the lighting of the lamp by Bishop Nazarene Soosai, Bishop of Kottar and Chairperson of the TNBC Youth Commission. His presence lent both spiritual depth and pastoral encouragement to the assembly.
Youth representatives from various dioceses presented their annual reports through videos and live presentations, highlighting grassroots initiatives, faith-driven action, and creative outreach efforts.
A key theme of the gathering was political awareness. Former TCYM members Mr. Naresh, Mr. Jefferson, and Mr. Raja took the stage to share their personal experiences in civic engagement. Their testimonies were both inspiring and eye-opening, urging the youth to overcome indifference and take active roles in shaping society.
Group discussions focused on political involvement, with teams poignantly named after victims of custodial deaths—serving as a stark reminder of the ongoing need for justice, compassion, and moral courage in public life.
Bishop Nazarene Soosai delivered a much-awaited address, urging young Catholics to become “beacons of light in the public square,” integrating Gospel values with civic responsibility. Echoing the words of Pope Francis, he encouraged them to become “social poets”—visionaries who imagine and build a better future.
A stirring vote of thanks was delivered by Rev. Fr. Edison, TCYM Director, who affirmed the youth's emerging leadership and expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the event’s success.
As the sun set on a day filled with energy, insight, and conviction, one truth stood clear: the Catholic youth of Tamil Nadu are not merely preparing for the future—they are shaping the present.
