Catholic Parish in Rayagada, Odisha, Holds Prayers and Candle Light Rally in Memory of Pope Francis

Rayagada, Odisha, April 28, 2025: The Queen of the Mission Cathedral in Rayagada Town, Odisha, organised a day of special prayers and a candle rally on April 27, 2025, in memory of His Holiness, the late Pope Francis. The event, led by parish priest Fr. Abed Kumar Khura and assistant parish priest Fr. John Umakant, witnessed the active participation of around 400 faithful.


The day commenced with a solemn Eucharistic celebration in the cathedral, offered for the eternal repose of Pope Francis. Members of the faithful participated in the Holy Mass with profound devotion, seeking comfort and spiritual strength.


Later in the evening, the faithful reconvened at the cathedral for the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. During the Adoration, prayers, hymns, and reflections were offered, highlighting the humility, love, and leadership that Pope Francis embodied throughout his papacy. The session fostered an atmosphere of deep prayer and spiritual unity.


Following the Adoration, a candlelight rally was held. Members of the faithful, holding lighted candles, peacefully marched through the streets of Rayagada, praying the Rosary, singing hymns, and offering silent prayers. This public display of faith served as a powerful tribute to the enduring legacy of Pope Francis.


The rally concluded at the cathedral premises with a short reflection and final blessing by Fr. Abed Kumar Khura. In his reflection, Fr, Abed Kumar urged the faithful to live out the values exemplified by Pope Francis—faith, service, mercy, and compassion. Assistant Parish Priest Fr. John Umakant expressed gratitude to all participants for their active and prayerful involvement.


The day’s events stood as a touching and dignified tribute to Pope Francis, fostering a spirit of unity, prayer, and hope among parishioners of the cathedral.
