Catholic Mental Health Ministry of India Invites Volunteers to Build Nationwide Network of Care

Bengaluru, June 4, 2026: Responding to the growing mental health challenges facing individuals and communities across the country, the Catholic Mental Health Ministry (CMHM) of India has launched a nationwide appeal inviting volunteers, professionals, clergy, religious and lay faithful to join its mission of accompaniment, support and healing.

An initiative of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India Office for Healthcare, CMHM India seeks to address the increasing prevalence of loneliness, anxiety, addiction, emotional distress and other mental health concerns that affect people from all walks of life. The ministry emphasises that many individuals continue to suffer in silence, often without access to understanding, support or professional care.

The ministry brings together mental health professionals and pastoral workers to promote awareness, provide training, offer accompaniment and advocate for greater attention to mental well-being within families, parishes and society. Through its programmes, CMHM aims to foster communities where individuals experiencing psychological and emotional difficulties can find acceptance, compassion and hope.

As part of its latest outreach initiative, the ministry is encouraging people of goodwill to register as members and volunteers, becoming part of a growing national network dedicated to supporting those facing mental health challenges. Central to the ministry’s mission is the conviction that every person deserves to be accompanied with dignity and care, and that no one should face emotional suffering alone.

Serving as the Indian chapter of the Association of Catholic Mental Health Ministers, CMHM India works to establish mental health ministries in dioceses and parishes, equip Church leaders through specialised training, and create safe spaces where individuals can seek support without fear of stigma.

The ministry has called upon Church communities and the wider public to participate actively in building a culture of compassion, understanding and healing. Through collaborative efforts and community-based support, CMHM hopes to strengthen the Church’s response to one of the most pressing pastoral and social concerns of the present time.

CMHM has invited those interested in volunteering, seeking assistance or supporting its mission to register through its official platform and become part of a nationwide movement committed to ensuring that no one walks alone in their struggles. As part of its ongoing initiatives, CMHM India is planning regional conferences across the country to expand its network of care and mental health ministry.
