Bp Moras: A New Shepherd for Jhansi

Jhansi, August 8, 2024: The Episcopal Ordination of Bishop Wilfred Gregory Moras as the Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of Jhansi was held on August 6 marked by deep devotion and grand celebration. The ordination ceremony was held at the Christ the King College ground and was attended by nearly three thousand people, with over ten thousand more witnessing the event online. 


Bishop Wilfred Gregory Moras, originally from St. Roque’s Parish in Neerude, Mangalore, chose to study for the Diocese of Lucknow and was ordained for this diocese. His appointment as Coadjutor Bishop of Jhansi was announced on May 11, 2024 and his Episcopal Ordination was presided over by Archbishop Raphy Manjaly of Agra. His Eminence Leopoldo Girelli, the Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal, graced the occasion with his presence. 


The co-consecrators for the ceremony were Bishop Peter Parapullil of Jhansi, and Bishop. Gerald John Mathias of Lucknow. Fr. Tarcius Britto, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Jhansi, presented the candidate, while Fr. Arulraj of the Diocese of Jhansi publicly announced the Apostolic Letter. Bishop Ignatius D'Souza of Bareilly diocese delivered the homily


A brief felicitation was held in honor of the newly ordained Bishop Wilfred Gregory Moras. In his address, he greeted the audience in Hindi, saying, “Ishwar ka sevak Bishop Wilfred ka pehla abhivandan sweekary ho - Jai Yesu” (Please accept the first greetings from the servant of God, Bishop Wilfred - Jai Yesu). He concluded his address requesting the audience to shower their prayers, love and compassion upon him as he embarks on his new role.
