Mysuru, Jan 22, 2026: Calling Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) a vital pastoral structure for strengthening faith and participation at the grassroots, Bishop Francis Serrao, SJ, of Mysore, urged diocesan clergy to actively promote and animate BECs in their parishes during an orientation programme at the Catholic Centre, Mysuru.
Bishop Serrao emphasised the importance of BECs in fostering faith-sharing, community bonding, and participatory leadership at the grassroots level.
The programme included sessions on the relevance, spirituality, and pastoral role of BECs, as well as the role of the priest in nurturing vibrant Basic Ecclesial Communities.
The orientation was animated by Fr. Joachim Fernandes and attended by parish priests, assistant parish priests, deacons, and religious priests. Practical strategies for strengthening BECs across the diocese were discussed, equipping the clergy with renewed vision and commitment to building vibrant communities.
