Archbishop of Ternopil Asks for Prayers After Deadly Bombing

Ternopil, Western Ukraine, 20 November 2025 — Archbishop Teodor Martynyuk of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church has issued a heartfelt appeal for prayer and practical support in the wake of a devastating Russian drone and missile attack on the city of Ternopil. The strike, which hit residential blocks and infrastructure, killed at least 25 people—including three children—and injured dozens more.

Archbishop Martynyuk visited the scene of destruction alongside other clergy and volunteers, comforting victims and coordinating immediate relief efforts. He described the Church’s response, saying:

“I assure you of our support and prayers … we ask everyone to unite in prayer and mutual support.”

He noted that a humanitarian centre has been set up at St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Ternopil to provide shelter, medical assistance, and counselling for those who have lost homes or loved ones.

The broader attack involved over 470 drones and 48 missiles across Ukraine, severely damaging homes and leaving thousands without electricity or shelter. The archbishop called on the faithful to remain calm, support one another, and respond with solidarity rather than fear.

He also invited believers worldwide to join in prayer for peace and voiced the Church’s commitment to stand by all civilian victims of the war, especially children and families displaced by the violence.
