AMRAT Sisters Trained in Social Media and Communication Skills

Mangaluru, September 7 2025: A four-day national workshop on social media and communication skills for members of Amrat Talitha Kum India (AMRAT) concluded on Saturday at Sandesha Foundation, Mangaluru. Conducted in two groups, the training emphasised creativity, practical learning, and mission-driven communication.

Participants from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Karnataka, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana took part. Each of them is engaged at the grassroots in the fight against human trafficking and in promoting safe, dignified migration.

The programme was inaugurated by Sr. Jyothi BS, National Coordinator of AMRAT, who urged the sisters to use social media “responsibly and innovatively” to highlight the struggles of vulnerable communities and to strengthen advocacy for human rights.

Delivering the orientation, Fr. Sudeep Paul MSFS, Director of Sandesha Foundation, reminded participants that media, when used thoughtfully, becomes “a pathway for awareness, advocacy, and social transformation.”

The sessions, led by Fr. Sudeep Paul MSFS, Fr. Edwin Vaz SVD, and Fr. Sunil, combined theory with practice. Participants gained exposure to a wide range of tools and techniques, including:

  • Digital storytelling and reporting – documenting field experiences with empathy and accuracy.
  • Photography and videography – mastering techniques in framing, lighting, and editing using cameras and smartphones.
  • Poster and flyer design – creating campaign visuals through platforms like Canva and Photoshop.
  • Scriptwriting and reels – planning, scripting, and producing short videos tailored for online audiences.
  • AI tools in communication – experimenting with emerging digital platforms for design, content generation, and media production.
  • Cyber security and ethics – learning to protect data, ensure privacy, and uphold responsible media practices.

The workshop stressed hands-on learning. Participants produced news reports, designed campaign materials, created videos and reels, and tested AI-powered applications. A final showcase highlighted their creative outputs, reflecting how technical skills can support their grassroots mission.

In his valedictory message, Fr. Sudeep Paul underlined that the training extended beyond technical skills to conviction and purpose.

“Your pen, your camera, your smartphone—these are instruments to give voice to the voiceless, expose hidden realities, build awareness, and inspire action,” he told the sisters. He encouraged them to embrace their role as communicators of change and to engage with digital platforms with confidence and creativity.

The workshop concluded with a commissioning ceremony, affirming the sisters as responsible communicators and advocates.

The participants returned to their states energised, equipped with new skills, and with a strengthened sense of mission—ready to harness media as a tool for empowerment, awareness, and social transformation in their ongoing fight against human trafficking.
