Agartala, August 4, 2026: Around 650 young people from parishes across the Diocese of Agartala gathered at St. Francis Xavier’s Cathedral Parish on August 2 for Diocesan Youth Sunday 2026, reflecting on the call to remain steadfast in faith and hope amid challenges.
The celebration was held under the theme, “Take Courage, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33), and sought to encourage young Catholics to witness to Christ with courage and commitment.
Fr. George Jacob, CSC, Director of the Holy Cross Educational Foundation, presided over the Eucharistic celebration. Young people from various parishes took an active part in the liturgy, serving as choir members, readers and ministers in other roles.
The celebration continued with a cultural programme featuring welcome addresses, dances and songs. The Agartala Diocesan Youth Commission presented a report on its activities, highlighting its engagement with young people across the diocese.
Shri Sujoy Uchoi, MDC, TTAADC, and Fr. George Jacob addressed the gathering, offering messages of encouragement to the young participants.
A youth-to-youth message was delivered by Jeremy Darlong, former diocesan youth president. He called on the participants to become courageous witnesses of Christ and to translate their faith into concrete action in their families and communities.
The celebration concluded with the young participants returning to their respective parishes with renewed faith and enthusiasm. They were encouraged to become ambassadors of hope and instruments of God’s love in their families, communities and wider society.
