A Nun’s Story in Rap: Fr. Jobis’ Groundbreaking Music Video

India, February 15, 2025 – Fr. Jobis Mani OFM Capuchin has launched IT’S YOU AND ME, a groundbreaking music video that blends faith and hip-hop to tell the story of a nun’s journey. This rap-inspired song brings spiritual storytelling to a contemporary audience.


Performed by SMMI Sisters—Sr. Rebecca Panmei SMMI, Sr. Rose Arengh SMMI, Sr. Lorencia Ting SMMI, and Sr. Anni Sidisow—and sung by Sruthy Sivadas, the song features music by Alan Shoji. Stunning visuals by Rajesh Kudamalloor and editing by Sreejesh Sreedharan enhance the artistic expression of faith.The song was filmed in Meghalaya and Guwahati, composed and mixed in Chennai, and mastered in the UK, with the entire production process spanning nearly six months.


Breaking Stereotypes with Spiritual Rap 

The Director, Fr. Jobis from Thodupuzha, is presently serving in Nirmala Matha Custody Assam – Meghalaya. Passionate about filmmaking, he seeks to use cinema to make spirituality more engaging. He believes this project breaks stereotypes. “This is something never seen before—a nun sharing her story through rap. It’s not just a song; it’s a bold, new artistic way to connect with today’s youth," he shared.


Fr. Jobis explained that his goal was to create a song that merged melody and rap, ensuring it remained dynamic while carrying the Gospel message.He credits his Capuchin brothers, especially Fr. Renny Velayapillil, for their support. His previous short film, Erina, won two awards. He is now working on a script with his brother and has already shot his next music video—an anthem for "Pilgrims of Hope," the theme of the Jubilee Year 2025.
