YCS – Farla Unit Marks Silver Jubilee with Grand "YUVOTSAV 2K25" Celebration in Mangalore

Farla, Mangaluru, April 28, 2025: The Young Catholic Students (YCS) Unit of Our Lady of Vailankanni Church, Farla, celebrated its Silver Jubilee with a vibrant event titled "YUVOTSAV 2K25" on 26th April 2025 at the church premises. The day-long celebration commenced with a Thanksgiving Mass presided over by Rev. Fr. Roshan D'Cunha, Director of YCS-Mangalore Diocese. After the Mass, Fr. Roshan inaugurated the "YUVOTSAV 2K25" programme by unveiling the logo of the event. In his address to the gathering, he described youth as the golden period of life and urged all young attendees to channel their talents and energy for personal growth and societal betterment.


During the programme, prayers were offered for the soul of the late Pope Francis, and his significant contributions to the Church and the youth were fondly remembered. Later, a felicitation ceremony took place, during which Ms. Sabitha Monis, an extraordinary individual born without hands, was honoured for her remarkable achievements.


Despite being physically challenged, Sabitha wrote her examinations using her feet, pursued higher education, and now serves as the Children's Welfare Officer at Alva's Education Foundation. Mr. Leswin Sequeira, Yuvatare Editor and proud YCS Farla member, was also felicitated for her outstanding contributions during the ceremony.


Former YCS Farla animators Mrs. Judith Pais and Mrs. Zita Menezes, along with current animators Mrs. Sunitha Baptist and Ms. Josna Vas, were felicitated for their dedicated service to the movement. 


Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Mark D'Souza praised the YCS unit of the parish for its invaluable contributions to the parish community. Mr. Anson Nazareth, National YCS President, passionately spoke about Pope Francis’s vision for the youth and highlighted the importance of bringing young minds closer to the Church and society.


Ms. Sabitha Monis shared the inspiring story of her life, motivating the youth to overcome obstacles with determination. A documentary chronicling the 25-year journey of YCS Farla was screened, followed by a vibrant cultural dance performance by members of YCS Farla unit.


Later, a Konkani comedy film titled "Lucky Draw 777", produced and directed by Mr. Rayan Magneto, was screened, providing wholesome entertainment to the audience.


The event witnessed the presence of PPC Vice President Mr. Naveen Menezes, PPC Secretary Mrs. Hilda Pereira, All Commissions Coordinator Mrs. Sunitha Rodrigues, National YCS President Mr. Anson Nazareth, Diocesan YCS President Mr. Deyon Saldanha and Unit President Ms. Ashlyn Lasrado, who graced the occasion on the dais.  


Ms. Renita Monteiro presented the YCS Annual Report for the 2024-25 academic year, highlighting the activities and achievements of the parish’s YCS Unit. 


The entire event was anchored by Ms. Adline Vas. Ms. Ashlyn Lasrado welcomed the gathering, while Ms. Eva D'Souza proposed the vote of thanks.


A special highlight of the event was the launch of the "YUVOTSAV 2K25" title track, composed by Mr. Leswin Sequeira and penned by Mrs. Sunitha Baptist.


The event concluded with the singing of the YCS Anthem, filling the hearts of all with joy and pride.
