We Are Pilgrims of Hope: Bishop Derek Fernandes Calls for Love and Unity Among Christians

Belagavi, December 16, 2024: : Christians from various denominations gathered in large numbers at the Methodist Church compound in Belagavi on December 15 for the United Christmas program, celebrating the spirit of love and unity. The event was organized by the All Karnataka United Christian Forum for Human Rights in collaboration with the Commission for Ecumenism and the Central Methodist Church. Bishop Derek Fernandes of Belgaum presided over the program, joined by priests from various local churches.


The program featured prayers, Christmas carols and performances inspired by the birth of Jesus Christ. Teams from local churches and schools, including St. Joseph's Convent, St. Xavier's High School and Fatima Cathedral, presented impressive carols, tableaus and songs in English and Kannada, captivating the audience with their heartfelt performances.


In his address, Bishop Fernandes emphasized the message of love preached by Jesus Christ, stating, “God so loved the world that He sent His only Son to this world. Thus Jesus Christ preached the commandments of love. Love your neighbour as you love yourselves as we are pilgrims of hope,” he said. The bishop also highlighted the special significance of this Christmas as the world prepares to enter the Jubilee Year, marking the birth of Jesus Christ.


The celebration concluded, leaving the crowd inspired and united in faith. Among the organizers were Pastor Anand Rotti, Pastor Cherian, Fr. Philip Kutty, Fr. Pramodkumar, Pastor Chillal and Clara Fernandes, alongside many youth and students from local schools and churches.
