Sisters of St. Joseph of Annecy of Vishakapatnam Province Celebrate 375 Years of Service

Visakhapatnam, October 12, 2025 - The Sisters of St. Joseph of Annecy, Visakhapatnam Province, marked a significant milestone on October 11, 2025, as they celebrated their 375th anniversary, known as the Terquasquicentennial Jubilee. The congregation, founded by Fr. Jean Pierre Médaille, SJ, and six pioneering women in Le Puy, France, on October 15, 1650, gathered for a solemn Eucharistic celebration at Convent Junction, Gnanapuram.


The celebration was presided over by His Eminence Cardinal Poola Anthony, Archbishop of Hyderabad, who was joined by His Excellency Udumala Bala, Archbishop of Visakhapatnam, and His Excellency M. Prakash, D.D., Archbishop Emeritus. Over 600 participants, including clergy, dignitaries, and lay collaborators, attended the event.


The Sisters of St. Joseph of Annecy have been serving the community for nearly four centuries, with a focus on education, social upliftment, and serving the poor and marginalized. Their mission has taken them across continents and cultures, earning them recognition for their selfless commitment and steadfast faith.


Cardinal Poola Anthony lauded the Sisters for their dedicated service to the Church, acknowledging their steadfast faith and selfless commitment. Archbishop Udumala Bala praised their unwavering devotion and profound love, highlighting how their ministry continues to uplift lives and radiate hope and compassion, especially among the most vulnerable.


The Sisters' commitment to serving the poor and marginalized has been a hallmark of their ministry. Through their various initiatives, they have provided education, healthcare, and social support to countless individuals, empowering them to improve their lives and build a brighter future.


The 375th anniversary celebration concluded with a sincere vote of thanks, highlighting the jubilee as a moment of joyful gratitude. As the Sisters of St Joseph of Annecy look to the future, their legacy serves as a powerful reminder of the impact of faith, love, and service.
