Nov 20, 2025: As COP30 concludes in Belém, Brazil, Catholics from across the world have gathered in an extraordinary spirit of unity. Cardinals, bishops, clergy, religious, lay leaders, youth movements, and Catholic organizations at COP30 and the Peoples’ Summit have prepared a joint statement affirming their shared commitment to care for our common home. This call is now open to all Catholics and people of goodwill who wish to express solidarity.
More than a formal declaration, the statement stands as a collective witness of faith, hope, and responsibility at a decisive moment for humanity. A decade after the Paris Agreement and Pope Francis’s appeal in Laudato Si’, the world continues to face escalating climate impacts. Yet in Belém—where the Church has long accompanied Indigenous communities and social movements—the Catholic presence at COP30 rediscovered renewed strength and purpose.
Throughout the conference, voices from Asia, Africa, Latin America, and other regions reflected the unity first seen in the episcopal letter A Call for Climate Justice and the Common Home. Shared prayer, reflection, advocacy, liturgies, and even a moving procession of the Virgem de Nazaré revealed a Church walking together with the poor and with creation.
The statement, now open for signatories, echoes Pope Francis’s call for an “ecological conversion” and Pope Leo’s reminder that the Church walks alongside scientists, leaders, and people of every creed as guardians of creation. It urges deeper tenderness toward the environment, stronger solidarity with one another, and greater courage in addressing the climate crisis, especially its impact on the poor, youth, migrants, Indigenous peoples, and marginalized communities.
Signing the statement allows individuals to join a growing global Catholic witness committed to justice, hope, and care for our common home. It is a simple yet meaningful act of solidarity—an affirmation that the planet and its people matter.
