St. Carlo Acutis, though young in years, shone as a radiant beacon of faith in the modern world, reminding everyone that sanctity is possible at any age. His extraordinary love for the Eucharist and unwavering devotion to Christ transformed ordinary moments into occasions of grace, drawing countless hearts, especially the youth, closer to God through the power of the digital age. Carlo’s witness still echoes today, testifying that true happiness and greatness are found in putting God first and serving others, and inspiring a new generation to pursue holiness with joyful courage and childlike trust. Today we celebrate his first feast day after canonisation.
Here is an Open Letter to St. Carlo Acutis.
Dear Carlo, On this special day, your first feast as a canonized Saint, I just wanted to write you a note from my heart. It still amazes me that someone my age rather younger could walk so boldly towards Jesus, embracing Him so closely in your daily life. You always said, “The Eucharist is my highway to Heaven” and showed us that holiness is a path made up of small, daily choices to love and to serve.
You were just 7 years old when you received your First Communion. After that, you never let go of the privilege of attending Mass every day, finding time for adoration, and talking to Jesus as a friend. Sometimes, I admit, it’s hard for me to stay awake or focused, even for a few minutes in front of the Blessed Sacrament. How did you manage to gaze at Him so intently, with so much love and devotion? Your faithfulness inspires me to try a little harder each day.
Now “the highway” has brought you to its end, and “the GPS” finally said, “You have reached your destination.” I can only imagine what it’s like for you to truly encounter Jesus face to face, not only in the Host you adored, but in the fullness of Heaven itself. That thought fills me with both longing and joy. Please, Carlo, pray for me so I may also come closer to God, just as you did.
Happy feast day, my dear friend and Saint! I visited you your tomb in Assisi. Never before have I felt so close to someone in Heaven, someone who lived and loved the way I strive to. You have shown that the ordinary can be extraordinary if lived for Christ. Please keep watching over us down here, you are our closest and biggest “wasta” to Jesus. Pray for us, guide us, and help us to follow your example of holiness in the digital world and beyond.
With gratitude, love and hope,
Your admirer
