NUCF Urges Peace and Justice on Second Anniversary of Manipur Crisis

On the second anniversary of the Manipur conflict, the National United Christian Forum (NUCF) has issued a heartfelt appeal for peace, justice, and reconciliation. The NUCF — a coalition of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI), National Council of Churches in India (NCCI), and the Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI) — expressed grave concern over the ongoing violence that began on 3 May 2023.

In its statement, the NUCF highlighted the devastating toll of the crisis, which has claimed over 250 lives, displaced more than 60,000 people, and resulted in the destruction of over 300 churches. These structures, the NUCF noted, were more than buildings — they were sanctuaries of community, worship, and hope.

The forum called for an immediate end to hostilities, urging all parties to cease violence unconditionally. With Manipur currently under President’s Rule, the NUCF appealed to the Central Government to take decisive action to disarm militant groups and restore peace. It also demanded thorough investigations into the violence, justice for victims, and accountability for those responsible.

Additionally, the NUCF emphasised the need for humanitarian relief, including compensation, rehabilitation, and psychological support for the displaced, irrespective of their background. Stressing the importance of dialogue, it urged all communities to come together to resolve deep-rooted issues related to land, identity, and representation.

Churches across India have been asked to observe Sunday, 4 May 2025, as a Day of Prayer for Manipur, lifting up prayers for healing, justice, and national unity.
