Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Aurangabad, July 20, 2025 – A purposeful convergence of non-governmental organisations from across the Diocese of Aurangabad was held at the Bishop’s House today, under the leadership of Bishop Bernard Lancy Pinto. The meeting marked a significant moment of unity and renewed commitment to social transformation amidst rising societal and operational challenges.
The gathering brought together heads and representatives of numerous NGOs to collectively address increasing financial difficulties, mounting social pressure, and allegations of religious conversions. In his keynote address, Bishop Pinto called on civil society actors to remain firmly anchored in their core values. He urged them to remain bold, transparent, and consistent in their mission. “In these difficult times, we are called to be responsible stewards of creation and compassionate responders to human need,” the Bishop stated, advocating for ecological responsibility and innovative responses to unemployment.
Dr. Fr. Valerian Fernandes, Vicar General of the Diocese, delivered an impassioned address highlighting the prophetic dimension of social work. He emphasised that authentic social action must be grounded in faith, justice, and moral conviction. “Courage and resilience,” he said, “are essential virtues in the face of adversity.”
A standout feature of the programme was a legal awareness session led by Advocate Daniel Takwale, an expert in charity law and trust governance. His presentation offered clear insights into key legal requirements concerning compliance, registration, and documentation for trusts. The session sparked an engaged Q&A, reflecting participants’ strong interest in ensuring lawful and ethical operations.
Also featured was a report-sharing session, in which various NGO representatives presented updates on their initiatives, highlighted ongoing challenges, and outlined future plans. This segment fostered mutual learning and opened doors for potential collaborations among the organisations present.
The day’s proceedings began and concluded with prayer, and were expertly coordinated by Fr. Sanjay Parkhe, the Diocesan Social Work Coordinator. His facilitation ensured a smooth, well-structured gathering and an atmosphere conducive to meaningful reflection and networking.
The meeting closed with a fellowship lunch, leaving participants energised and focused. The shared resolve to advance social justice, ecological sustainability, and legal integrity emerged as a clear takeaway – a hopeful sign of united, faith-driven service in challenging times.
