Meghalaya Chief Minister Joins Thousands in Eucharistic Procession at Tura

Tura, Nov 13, 2025: In a remarkable expression of faith and solidarity, Shri Conrad Kongkal Sangma, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya, joined thousands of Catholics at the annual Eucharistic celebration and procession held at the Sacred Heart Shrine, Chandmari, in the Diocese of Tura on November 9.

Around 5,000 faithful participated in the solemn celebration, which is held every year in the second week of November. The Holy Eucharist was celebrated by Bishop Andrew R. Marak of Tura and Auxiliary Bishop Jose Chirackal, along with several other diocesan priests.

Speaking to Catholic Connect , Fr. Benjamin Arengh, Secretary to the Bishop, shared that the Chief Minister attended the celebration from the very beginning of the Mass. “He was there with his parishioners right from the beginning of the Mass, fully participating in the liturgy and prayers.” “After joining the Eucharistic procession with deep reverence, he shared lunch with the bishop and priests, spending time in warm fellowship. Even after the meal, he remained for nearly two hours, engaging in meaningful discussions about the diocese, its pastoral initiatives, and the Church’s role in the wider society.”

Fr. Benjamin also noted the Chief Minister’s humility and simplicity, observing that he walked alongside the people without any security detail, reflecting his closeness to the community and respect for the spiritual significance of the day.

The annual Eucharistic celebration continues to serve as a powerful public manifestation of faith for the Diocese of Tura, drawing together clergy, laity, and leaders in prayer and unity.
