Madurai, March 17, 2025 – Madha TV, a leading Tamil catholic media channel, conducted an AI training workshop from March 15 to 16 at Sathangai Academy, Madurai. The event, organised in collaboration with SIGNIS Tamil Nadu, brought together 40 young participants from the dioceses of Madurai, Sivagangai, and Dindigul to explore the ethical and practical applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in media and social service.
The first day of the event commenced with an inaugural address by Fr. Alex Gnana Raj, Director of Sathangai Academy. Renowned journalist and former MP Mr. Rabi Bernard then delivered a session on “Responsible and Responsive Youth,” emphasising the role of young minds in ethical media practices. Fr. Jenith Sekar conducted a session where he introduced participants to AI tools, while Fr. Arulanandam, President of SIGNIS Tamil Nadu, discussed the ethical considerations of AI. Additionally, Fr Edison, Secretary of the TNBC Youth Commission, elaborated on “Mediacracy in the AI World.” The first day of the event concluded with the celebration of Holy Mass.
On the second day, following Holy Mass, Dr Vimal Jerold, Assistant Professor, led hands-on training sessions, enabling participants to explore AI tools for multimedia content creation. These practical exercises enhanced their digital media skills and deepened their understanding of AI’s role in modern storytelling.
The workshop concluded with an address by Rev. Fr David, CEO of Madha TV, who highlighted the significance of AI in ethical media practices and future initiatives for youth empowerment. Participants received certificates and a translated version of Pope Francis’ message on AI and the Church.
By hosting this workshop, Madha TV and SIGNIS Tamil Nadu reaffirmed their commitment to equipping young minds with digital skills, ensuring AI serves as a tool for ethical storytelling and social justice.
