India’s First Complete Rongmei Catholic Bible Released in Manipur

Manipur, December 15, 2025: A historic milestone for the Rongmei Catholic community was reached as India’s first complete Rongmei Catholic Bible was officially released at St. Paul Parish, Senapati, marking a moment of deep cultural, linguistic, and spiritual significance for the Rongmei Naga people.

The Bible was released during a solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by Bishop Dominic Lumon of Imphal, who congratulated the translation team for their dedication and perseverance. He emphasized that having Scripture in one’s own mother tongue strengthens faith, preserves cultural identity, and deepens the people’s relationship with God.

The newly published text includes both the Old and New Testaments and was prepared by the Rongmei Catholic Scripture Translation Team, which worked for years to ensure linguistic accuracy, theological integrity, and pastoral clarity. The initiative was supported by the Bible Commission of the Archdiocese of Imphal and various community leaders.

Rongmei lay faithful, priests, religious, and well-wishers from across Manipur attended the ceremony with immense joy, expressing gratitude that future generations will now encounter the Word of God in their heart language.

Copies of the Bible were distributed to parish representatives and mission centres, marking the beginning of a renewed scriptural and cultural journey for the community.
