May 26, 2026: Indian Catholic Youth Movement brought together thousands of Catholic youth from across the country through a nine-day virtual Pentecost Novena that fostered prayer, reflection and spiritual renewal in preparation for Pentecost.
Held from May 15 to 23, the nationwide online initiative centred on the Fruits of the Holy Spirit and created a shared spiritual space for young people from different regions of India. Each day of the Novena was animated by a different region, offering reflections and prayers focused on a particular Fruit of the Spirit.
The Novena was inaugurated by Fr. John Barman MSFS, who encouraged young people to remain rooted in faith and united in Christ amid the challenges of contemporary life.
The Kerala Region opened the spiritual journey with reflections on Love, highlighting selfless love for God and neighbour as the foundation of Christian discipleship. The Agra Region later reflected on Joy, emphasising the need to sustain Christian hope even amid daily struggles and uncertainties.
Youth from the Northern Region led reflections on Peace, focusing on the peace of Christ in an increasingly restless world, while the West Bengal Region reflected on Patience, encouraging trust and perseverance in God’s timing.
The Telugu Region animated the theme of Kindness, inspiring participants to become instruments of compassion through simple acts of care and understanding. Reflections on Goodness were led by the North-East Region, which highlighted moral integrity and service to others as essential expressions of Christian life.
The Chhattisgarh Region focused on Faithfulness, calling young people to remain committed to God’s call and mission, while the Karnataka Region reflected on Gentleness, underlining humility and inner strength as important Christian virtues.
The Novena concluded with reflections on Self-Control led by the ICYM National Team (NEXCO), symbolising the unity and collective spiritual journey of Catholic youth across India.
During the concluding session, Bishop Ignatius D’Souza of Bareilly and Chairman of CCBI Youth Commission reflected on the role of the Holy Spirit in daily Christian living. He explained how the Fruits of the Spirit help shape responsible and committed young Christian leaders capable of witnessing to Christ in society.
Fr. John Barman MSFS and Mr. Amit Dev expressed gratitude to regional directors, youth leaders, organising teams, NEXCO members and participants for their contribution to the success of the initiative. The Novena concluded with Fr. John imparting the final blessing to participants gathered online.
For many young people, the virtual Novena became more than an online prayer initiative. It offered an opportunity to deepen their faith, connect with peers from different parts of the country and rediscover the value of Christian fellowship and spiritual growth.
As the Church prepares to celebrate Pentecost, the initiative has left Catholic youth across India with a renewed sense of faith, mission and commitment to prayer, community life and Christian witness.
