Holy Trinity Parish, Sutnga, holds 28th Marian Procession at Mookympat village in Meghalaya

Mookympat, Meghalaya, May 26, 2025: The Holy Trinity Parish of Sutnga under the Jowai Diocese held its 28th Marian Procession on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Mookympat village. Organised under the leadership of Parish Priest Fr. Martin Shylla and Assistant Parish Priest Fr. Ebormi Dkhar, the event brought together approximately 500–600 faithful, including religious sisters from three convents and parishioners from nine local sub-station churches attached to the parish. The procession aimed to deepen devotion to the Virgin Mary and unite the faithful in prayer and reflection.

The day commenced with Shri Nicholas Nongtdu, a lay leader from one of the parish sub-stations, extending a warm welcome to the clergy, religious, dignitaries, and the laity. This was followed by the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Fr. Ebormi Dkhar and concelebrated by Fr. Martin Shylla.

In his homily during the Liturgy of the Word, Fr. Dkhar spoke about finding true peace in Christ, quoting John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives.”

After the Mass, the Marian Procession began under clear blue skies and cool autumn weather. The faithful walked in devotion through the village, reciting the Rosary and singing hymns. Youth from Mookympat village carried the statue of Mary Help of Christians, leading the faithful in a vibrant yet reverent expression of their faith. The participation of parishioners from the nine local substations of the parish was marked by unity and solemnity, with banners, songs, and prayers expressing deep Marian devotion.

Following the procession, Sister Maria Goretti Nongrum shared a brief reflection on “Mary, the Mother of Hope”. She encouraged the faithful not only to admire and venerate Mary but also to imitate her virtues in daily life.

The event concluded with Eucharistic Adoration led by Fr. Martin Shylla, accompanied by solemn hymns, prayer, and final blessings. Shri Lawrence Dkhar, another dedicated lay leader, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to making the celebration spiritually enriching and meaningful.
