Kamareddy, Telangana, 24 Sept 2025 — The Hyderabad Archdiocese Social Service Society (HASSS) distributed dry ration kits and essential supplies to 750 families in Kamareddy District, Telangana, who were severely affected by the late August floods. The initiative, guided by Cardinal Poola Anthony, Archbishop of Hyderabad and Chairman of HASSS, aimed to alleviate immediate needs and restore dignity to families who lost homes, livelihoods, and security. The relief programme reached communities in Gandhari and Lingampet Mandals through coordinated efforts with local authorities and voluntary organisations.
In the last week of August, over 2,000 families in Kamareddy were impacted by flooding. HASSS responded swiftly in two phases: the first phase aided more than 250 families, while the second phase, on 22 September, extended assistance to an additional 750 families.
In Gandhari Mandal, 400 families from Vandrikal, Vandrikal Camp, and Ramalakshmanapalli received aid, while in Lingampet Mandal, 350 families from Khanapur, Chennapur, Komatpalli, and Mothe villages were supported. Relief packages included dry ration kits, hygiene kits, and bedsheets, carefully prepared to meet urgent needs in the aftermath of the floods.
The initiative was coordinated with the local Tahsildar and strengthened by the collaboration of Light for the Blind, highlighting how partnerships between government authorities and voluntary organisations can deliver timely assistance to those most in need.
Fr. Anthony Madanu, Director of HASSS, said, "This initiative reflects the compassion we hold for those affected. The guidance of Cardinal Poola Anthony inspires us with a spirit of service."
Beyond material support, the distribution reinforced that the Church stands with the suffering. Families expressed gratitude not only for the aid but also for the reassurance that they were not abandoned in their darkest hour.
HASSS acknowledged the generous support of the people of the Archdiocese of Hyderabad, Caritas India, and other sponsors who contributed to this mission of mercy. In the midst of devastation, this relief effort became a testament to Christian charity, unity, and hope, restoring dignity and resilience to the people of Kamareddy District.
