BONGAIGAON, ASSAM, May 26, 2025: A grand Marian procession was held on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Christ the Light of the World Cathedral, a prominent parish under the Diocese of Bongaigaon in Assam. The event witnessed a large turnout of parishioners and faithful from various Catholic institutions across the region.
The devotional observance began at the cathedral premises with an opening sermon delivered by Rev. Fr. Balen Boro Ramchiary, financial administrator of the diocese. Reflecting on the Gospel passage from John 2:1-11, he highlighted the intercessory role of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the wedding at Cana, urging the faithful to follow her example by praying for others with trust and compassion.
Following the sermon, members of the faithful gathered in orderly queues, grouped according to their linguistic backgrounds, and began reciting the Holy Rosary. The procession commenced after the second decade. A beautifully adorned statue of Mother Mary was reverently carried as the procession advanced.
The procession route led from the Cathedral Church through the St. Aloysius Seminary compound and past the priests’ residence. Throughout the journey, participants prayed the Rosary and sang Marian hymns, creating an atmosphere of solemn devotion. The event concluded in front of the cathedral, where Rev. Fr. John Pullumarikunnel imparted the final Marian blessings, bringing the spiritually enriching event to a reverent close.
The vibrant and prayerful observance showcased the deep Marian devotion of the diocese and reinforced communal faith and solidarity.
