Fr. Suresh Mathew Appointed as New Chief Editor of Magnet

New Delhi, 7 October, 2025: Fr. Suresh Mathew, former editor of Indian Currents weekly, has been appointed chief editor of Magnet monthly magazine, a publication of the Conference of Religious India (CRI). He assumed office this week at the CRI national office in Delhi.

The appointment was made by Fr. Saju Chackalackal, president of the national CRI, with the approval of Fr. Rafie Paliekkara, provincial of the Capuchins of Krist Jyoti Province, North India.

A Capuchin priest, Fr. Suresh Mathew currently oversees the News Section of Catholic Connect, a digital platform of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI). He will continue to hold this responsibility alongside his new role.

Launched in September 2016, Magnet focuses on the personal, social, and spiritual integration of religious individuals and the wider faith community. The magazine was conceived by Fr. Joe Mannath SDB, an internationally acclaimed speaker and author, who was then the National Secretary of the CRI. He developed it into a world-class publication from 2017 to 2022. Although he stepped down as National Secretary in February 2022, he continued to edit the magazine until October that year.

In October 2022, the editorship was passed to Dr. Pushpa Joseph, a feminist theologian and researcher. Following in her mentor’s footsteps, she maintained the magazine’s quality with dedication and passion, notably introducing new writers, especially women.

Fr. Suresh Mathew’s appointment follows his recent election as President of the Indian Catholic Press Association (ICPA), a 60-year-old organisation of Catholic journalists and publishers, on September 21 in Pune. He presently serves as parish priest of St. Joseph’s Church, Amritsar, and manager of St. Joseph’s School, Amritsar, both under the Diocese of Jalandhar in Punjab.
